April

It all went by so quickly! I managed to make a birthday cake for a friend, lay out in the sun every chance I could get and caught up with friends and family. It doesn’t sound like much but it somehow takes up a lot of my weekends – not that I’m complaining!

Now, I’m not going to go into detail about the amazing weather we have had, as a typical swiss person will tell you, because the weather has been quite perfect so far… Oh, no! I just did. What am I becoming? All jokes aside, I’ve learnt to appreciate the good weather as it comes. In Switzerland, it can change from sunny to cold in a matter of hours. This is something I always found amusing: the amount of people confused by the weather. I’ve seen people wear coats and scarves, and  people wearing shorts and a singlet – both on a perfect 24 degree day.

As mentioned before, I like to lay out in the sun as often as possible! So naturally being the woman I am, I ordered myself another bikini for the summer. Black, high waisted bottoms and a nice classic triangled top. After trying them on, I’m still not sure if I can pull of the look of being a 2018’s Baywatch extra.

Here is a pic of me nearly asleep after a pedicure and relation in the sun at the Montreux palace spa. It doesn’t get better than that.

What most surprised me about making a cake for a 5 year old is that I can actually do it! In the back of my mind I always thought it would fall apart or I would drop it just before the party. But no, it turned out well. It wasn’t perfect – but I know now how to make it look better next time I make one. Maybe after a few more practice cakes I could make a tutorial…

Not sure why, but this year I’m very excited for summer and can’t wait to have an excuse to wear less clothing. I’ve been planning a few outfits I want to wear – including many things I’ve had in my closet for a long time but never wore! Oops… I’m sure I’m not the only one who does this.

Until I have more important things to report, I’ll leave it at that. I hope everyone is having a great day/night. Xx

Important things I’ve learned so far.

On my birthday weekend, I went to Zermatt. There was even a flight in a helicopter and it was amazing! On my birthday or leading up to it, I like to reflect back onto my life around my birthday to see how far I’ve come. I’ve learned so much over the past few years whether it’s just about life in general or things I wish I was told when I was younger, there is now a list! Here are mine, what would you add?

1. Learn to appreciate the small things.

2. Learn when to react and when to ignore. Your energy and effort is not infinite.

3. Be kind.

4. Stop putting impossible pressures on yourself.

5. Go at your own pace.

6. Have a hobby, preferably also one that keeps you active.

7. Travel as much as possible, experience different cultures, try different foods.

8. Save your money! Set a budget, put aside some money with every paycheck. It never seems like much but over a few years it adds up.

9. Do what you want to do – plan it, execute it, don’t ask for permission.

10. Communication is key. I’d rather repeat myself than miss out important information. In relation to: relationships, work environment, etc.

11. Go with your gut instinct.

12. Don’t rely on someone else for your own happiness.

13. The important people to keep in your life will make an effort.

14. Find out what works for you when it come to self care. It’s different for everyone.

15. You are enough.

16. Saying “I love you” doesn’t cost anything. Say it to those you care about!

17. Failure is just a lesson on how not to do “it”. Fail until you figure “it” out.

18. Fake it til you make it. We are all just hacking. Not everyone knows what they are doing.

13 songs guaranteed to make you feel good

There’s this thing that music can do to you, and what love the most is that it can change your mood. It makes you feel things you maybe never thought you felt before, it can also take you to a deep fantasy or just have a tune that gets stuck in your head on loop!

Of course I could make a list of over 100, I’ve looked through my latest playlist to try and narrow it down to the few songs that really make me happy. I loose focus of anything else going on around me and just enjoy the sound and lyric. If one of these songs were to be played in a bar or club – they are the reason I would then buy another round and hit the dance floor…

This list is of  my personal favourite songs that make me feel happy or ready to party (even if that party is just for me at home while cleaning the apartment in my underwear…) in no particular order:

  1. My Love ft. Jess Glynne – Route 94. This song is a bit slow but gently gets me in the mood to move around. House and great vocals. What more could you want?!
  2. Hotline Bling – Drake. It probably get’s on your nerves if you’re a person who listens to radio day in and out, but for me, it’s fun, chill and you can always break out your worst dance moves in clubs and people think you’re trying to imitate Drake. To this song, anything goes.
  3. Latch ft. Sam Smith – Disclosure. It’s sexy just because of Sam Smith alone, but I like the music also. Beware, the chorus is catchy…
  4. Or Nah ft. The Weeknd, Wiz Khalifa & DJ Mustard – Ty Dolla $ign. This song is definately one to get your hips moving to… again sexy and slow but also a bonus for having such dirty lyrics.
  5. Tried to – TAPES. “I’ll take care of you…” Actually a Drake song but remixed in a way you wouldn’t think it’s Drake. I love it!
  6. Move Your Feet – Junior Senior. For millennials, this may be considered “old school”… It sounds like Beastie Boys but somewhat more suitable for children.
  7. Night Riders ft. Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Pusha T & Mad Cobra – Major Lazer. Amazing beats. I love imagining some sort of twerk choreography to this. Dancing to this makes me feel bad ass!
  8. Say It ft. Tove Lo – Flume. I love the vocals. Slow build but again, feels ok to dance to this anyway you want. Which is good for anyone who can’t really dance…like me!
  9. Be Right There – Diplo & Sleepy Tom. Diplo is one of my all time favourite DJs. So of course at least one of his songs must be on this list!
  10. Fade – Kanye West. For anyone who hasn’t seen the video for this; you need to! The video catches your eye but the music keeps you coming back for more.
  11. 7/11 – Beyonce. Again an amazing video! Apparently she filmed it while on holiday with a very basic camera. Dance like Beyonce does in her bed and bathroom. Who hasn’t pretended to Queen B at least once in their lives already…
  12. Do Your Thing – Basement Jaxx. Classic and catchy. Basement Jaxx also makes many other great songs. I just felt like it’s the one everyone knows and loves.
  13. No More – Shlohmo & Jeremih. I have start off with how much I love Shlohmo. He is amazing! Jeremih and Shlohmo have done a handful of songs together and I also love all of those songs too! So for me, personally, if I hear some song I know and love (even if it’s not as upbeat) it makes me happy! That’s why this song is on the list!

That’s it for now. Maybe I should get working on that 100 song list for another time..

My 5 tips: How to feel effortlessly confident (and chic)

Why is feeling confident so important? Because after you start feeling good, looking good comes naturally. Confidence is something that radiates and can be seen through anything, it doesn’t matter what you look like! I’m still learning on how to be more confident but here are my 5 tips on how to feel effortlessly confident (and chic).

1. Get up, stand up.
Stand up tall like you’re a short kid trying to get on an amusement park ride. Shoulders down and back, chest out and proud. This is not only a good practice of posture, but automatically makes you feel more powerful. If you feel it – other people see it too!

2. Smile.
Not a fake smile, but a real one. Think of a person you love or back to a moment that made you happy. It literally is telling your brain to be happy by releasing feel good hormones into your body, which in course makes you actually feel it. Happiness, like confidence, is also something that radiates from within and can be noticed from afar.

3. Scrub up nicely.
Being freshly showered and groomed not only is basic hygiene but also boosts confidence – also helps with the added “effortlessly chic” factor too. I brush my teeth, take a shower, shave (personal preference), put a face mask on and leave the conditioner in my hair for a little longer than the bottle recommends. Added confidence boosting tip: using freshly washed towels to dry off. Don’t forget to moisturise and apply deodorant! I leave my home feeling confident at least that I don’t smell offensively and I’ve also taken extra care of myself at no extra cost. But if you want to be extra: add perfume. (Less is more in this instance, use only enough for you to smell it on yourself)

4. Compliment yourself.

Stand before your mirror and give yourself compliments each and every day. Try to find a new thing to compliment everyday. Be grateful for what you have and not on what you don’t have. you are unique and there are surely people who want things you possess. You will hopefully begin to realise you have so much to be confident about!

5. Give yourself a break.

(If all these tips haven’t helped you yet, I hope this one at least does.) Take a deep breath. Stop comparing yourself to others – I would compare myself or my life to old class mates or famous people. Trust me, this gets you nowhere! If there is something you feel you need to change, then change it. Complaining to yourself about how bad you feel, obviously won’t help your confidence. Whatever it may be: change it for you. You’ll be feeling effortlessly confident and hopefully chic in no time!
