April

It all went by so quickly! I managed to make a birthday cake for a friend, lay out in the sun every chance I could get and caught up with friends and family. It doesn’t sound like much but it somehow takes up a lot of my weekends – not that I’m complaining!

Now, I’m not going to go into detail about the amazing weather we have had, as a typical swiss person will tell you, because the weather has been quite perfect so far… Oh, no! I just did. What am I becoming? All jokes aside, I’ve learnt to appreciate the good weather as it comes. In Switzerland, it can change from sunny to cold in a matter of hours. This is something I always found amusing: the amount of people confused by the weather. I’ve seen people wear coats and scarves, and  people wearing shorts and a singlet – both on a perfect 24 degree day.

As mentioned before, I like to lay out in the sun as often as possible! So naturally being the woman I am, I ordered myself another bikini for the summer. Black, high waisted bottoms and a nice classic triangled top. After trying them on, I’m still not sure if I can pull of the look of being a 2018’s Baywatch extra.

Here is a pic of me nearly asleep after a pedicure and relation in the sun at the Montreux palace spa. It doesn’t get better than that.

What most surprised me about making a cake for a 5 year old is that I can actually do it! In the back of my mind I always thought it would fall apart or I would drop it just before the party. But no, it turned out well. It wasn’t perfect – but I know now how to make it look better next time I make one. Maybe after a few more practice cakes I could make a tutorial…

Not sure why, but this year I’m very excited for summer and can’t wait to have an excuse to wear less clothing. I’ve been planning a few outfits I want to wear – including many things I’ve had in my closet for a long time but never wore! Oops… I’m sure I’m not the only one who does this.

Until I have more important things to report, I’ll leave it at that. I hope everyone is having a great day/night. Xx

You do you

Over the few past few months I’ve noticed that my wardrobe has been looking a bit dull. It’s made me want to try and change it up a bit more. I remember to back when I was younger, I used to be a bit more crazier in the way used to dress. Prints. Stripes. You name it, I tried it. Way back when I owned a lot of Black Milk Clothing , I got people staring at me because I stuck out too much. As a young 18-year-old girl it sometimes felt like it was the wrong sort of attention. So I went into hiding…under the sea of black, navy and grey! (I’m not trying to say Black Milk was the problem, more the problem was that I was not yet confident enough to ignore the stares/looks I got!)

Now maybe it’s a coincidence but I think it has also something to do with the fact that I’ve been living for the past eight years in Switzerland. One might just start to learn how to blend in a little too well… I was sick of being noticed as an “outsider”, soon after, being asked as to when I’m going back to Australia.

Now nearly turning 26, I realise to not take everything so seriously! Yes, people can be nosey, but it doesnt mean you have to explain yourself. You can have style and you can be glam BUT you can also wear tie-dye T-shirt and tracksuit pants if you want, without having to have a reason. It’s all about getting that balance and I guess. I was going to turn into one of these long preaching moments of mine, but I know aint nobody got time fo dat that! Moving onto the highlight of my week:

I just bought a pair of MoonBoots. Which are crazy enough as they are on their own but they are in the color; lime green. Trying these bad boys on, I felt how comfortable they are. They are super soft and don’t match with anything in my closet but I love them! It’s nearly real spring weather but I’m secretly (not so secretly) hoping for some snow to wear these boots out in. I recommend them! Galaxus is having a sale here, if it was the price that was stopping you..

Signing off now, that’s it for my latest little update. I’m going to enjoy the rest of my night covered in face mask and having some soup aka, I’m doing me!

Model behaviour

Hey, hey to everyone reading this blog. You’ve been very patient! Thank you! I’ve had my days of totally avoiding social media to having a full “pig out” sessions, completely letting it distract me from life. But I’m back, with a plan to be more focused and in general to get better at the things I enjoy doing. I enjoy this quite a bit, I just worry about how to start. And then one thing leads to another and I’ve put off writing a blog for almost half a year! So again, I thank you for being here and truely hope I’m a positive influence or at least an entertaining read.

So, with an introduction like that you can tell I get quite easily distracted watching the fancy and glamorous lives of the people of instagram. I hate to admit it but social media can get the best of me at times. In the past, I saw I was comparing myself to how the other people looked online – and we all know, we only show what we want to. If one is not careful, it can be dangerous. In the sense that it can distort your view on reality and may even result in some sort of self destruction; whether it be negative thoughts or as far as even physical self harm/ body dismorphia.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

I get my dose of reality from, ironiclly enough, from the amazing handful of humans I follow on social media. It took me a while to figure out who is actually amazing and who is just faking it (not in a good way). I also had to realise that my role models might not be the same for everyone else – and it’s ok!

It took a bit to delete some apps and unfollow a few (ok, alot) of toxic people/pages but I’ve gotten to a place where I love my body, life and the people I choose to have in my close circle. Even just repeating that last sentence out loud makes me feel empowered. I CHOOSE who I share my life with. I CHOOSE to surround myself with loving and positive vibes. I CHOOSE to have less energy spent on people who don’t respect me or are constantly being negative. Social media can be a nasty place, but if it’s used for it’s original purpose (connecting people, spreading positivity, etc.) it’s a great place to be.

The online community you dip into is important. It should be a mix between people/pages that challenge your ideas or people/pages you can totally relate to. I’ve narrowed a little list of my favourites down to 4-5, which I will share below. Now, again, I know not everyone will have the same opinion… so let me know down below in the comments who your top favourite positive influences are!

  1. Robine Nina. She’s Swiss, she blogs about her life adventures and most importantly, she comes across as a really down to earth kind gal – which can be rare these days!Robine Nina
  2. Sonny Turner. She’s so real about her own body hang ups but isn’t afraid to show her body confidence. She let’s us know that you’re allowed to be both a work in progress and also a masterpiece simultaneously. Sonny Turner
  3. Lateicia Thomas. She’s young and ambitious. She’s making all other Aussies living abroad super proud and in some ways I feel like I can relate to her about how much she loves to dance to music around her apartment when she’s in a good mood.Laticia Thomas
  4. Abby Pollock. She’s continueously giving out free fitness and biology lessons on her YouTube channel and talks a lot about mental health in the fitness community. I like how she is not like the “others” of the fitness community, I get a feeling she genuinely wants to help others correct their training.img_0482
  5. Gary Vaynerchuck. Just to throw a curve ball in, I decided to include him to the list. He is definitely one to just cut through any bullshit and thrive on good vibes. He’s loud and sometimes talks over others but his messages are positive and pure.img_0481

Autumn. Fall. Herbst. 2017.

It’s getting cold here in Switzerland. The sky may be blue but it can get as chilly as f**k! I’m sort of stuck between wearing a trench coat with a few layers underneath and wearing a full on winter coat. I wish the weather would stay between 14 and 18 degrees because I’m not ready to hang up my trench coat just yet…

Between the two seasons of Autumn and Winter, all outfits are usually paired with the same accessories: Scarf, Hat/Beanie, Boots! As we already know the next big trend before the end of the year is a puffy jacket, I actually have a few more predictions of what we are going to be seeing a lot more of soon…

  1. Studded boots/ jackets/ hats… studded anything really! Bonus points for anything studded, pearled and encrusted with diamonds all at the same time. I love the pearled sweaters and t-shirts. It makes every day clothes a little more special to wear.

2. Less fur. Gucci has declared that they won’t be using fur anymore. It’s definitely will inspire many other artists and fashionistas around the globe to think more consciously before purchasing fur. Read more here.

3. Corduroy aka, Cords. Remember when we all thought velvet was gone forever and then they made a come back? Well, same thing with cords. They were a thing of the 70’s and 90’s fashion, it was only a matter of time before they come back into our wardrobes again. I love the shades of pink! A lot is being sold through Urban Outfitters and ASOS.

4. Last but not least, brighter/ bolder colours! From Emerald Green to Pumpkin Orange… Maybe my predictions about yellow will also come true?

There are probably more but these are the ones I’m most excited about. Let me know what your favourites are below!

Retail Therapy

It’s Monday again and I have the day off. I never really have too much planned when I’m not working because I like to be spontaneous! I like that the opportunity is there and it’s up to me to use it.

There was one thing that I had planned and that was to get my lashes done and have lunch with family in Luzern. Apart from that… no obligations! Love it!

Where I’m going with this long introduction is basically to find out if there are others like me who find shopping calming? Now I know why it’s called Retail Therapy. It’s odd but I find it really relaxing but also exciting! I love picturing outfits on in my head and how I would wear “crazy” pants or shirts in day-to-day life.

“Choose a job you love and you won’t have to work a day in your life”

I guess I should be asking also for advice how to get into the business of styling and personal shopping. I’d love to see if I have what it takes! Don’t get me wrong, I love my job now also – but you never know ‘til you have a go. Fashion is something ever growing, ever evolving and maybe there’s a niche out there for me.

My 5 tips: How to feel effortlessly confident (and chic)

Why is feeling confident so important? Because after you start feeling good, looking good comes naturally. Confidence is something that radiates and can be seen through anything, it doesn’t matter what you look like! I’m still learning on how to be more confident but here are my 5 tips on how to feel effortlessly confident (and chic).

1. Get up, stand up.
Stand up tall like you’re a short kid trying to get on an amusement park ride. Shoulders down and back, chest out and proud. This is not only a good practice of posture, but automatically makes you feel more powerful. If you feel it – other people see it too!

2. Smile.
Not a fake smile, but a real one. Think of a person you love or back to a moment that made you happy. It literally is telling your brain to be happy by releasing feel good hormones into your body, which in course makes you actually feel it. Happiness, like confidence, is also something that radiates from within and can be noticed from afar.

3. Scrub up nicely.
Being freshly showered and groomed not only is basic hygiene but also boosts confidence – also helps with the added “effortlessly chic” factor too. I brush my teeth, take a shower, shave (personal preference), put a face mask on and leave the conditioner in my hair for a little longer than the bottle recommends. Added confidence boosting tip: using freshly washed towels to dry off. Don’t forget to moisturise and apply deodorant! I leave my home feeling confident at least that I don’t smell offensively and I’ve also taken extra care of myself at no extra cost. But if you want to be extra: add perfume. (Less is more in this instance, use only enough for you to smell it on yourself)

4. Compliment yourself.

Stand before your mirror and give yourself compliments each and every day. Try to find a new thing to compliment everyday. Be grateful for what you have and not on what you don’t have. you are unique and there are surely people who want things you possess. You will hopefully begin to realise you have so much to be confident about!

5. Give yourself a break.

(If all these tips haven’t helped you yet, I hope this one at least does.) Take a deep breath. Stop comparing yourself to others – I would compare myself or my life to old class mates or famous people. Trust me, this gets you nowhere! If there is something you feel you need to change, then change it. Complaining to yourself about how bad you feel, obviously won’t help your confidence. Whatever it may be: change it for you. You’ll be feeling effortlessly confident and hopefully chic in no time!
